Eight of us this week, which would have been nine had Nige not been having a real Friday the 13th kind of day (something about boilers, engineers and exploding aquavacs). Anyway, four of us started off playing Coney Island, Michael Schacht's release at Essen last year. The game has some neat mechanics especially the manipulation of the player board to adjust one's income. Guy managed to get lots of his entertainers out on the board with the aim of building over them with a couple of big attractions but forgot that some attractions needed to cover more than one player's entertainers and we managed to keep well away from him. However, while his entertainers entertained he racked up loads of points and the negative points he received from pieces still on the board wasn't quite enough to peg him back enough, particularly when my large collection of newspapers turned out to be low scoring ones. Nice game, not a stellar release but one that plays very smoothly, just as you would expect from Michael Schacht.
