For our third game, I picked Cuatro which is a dice game crossing yahtzee with Connect 4. The board is a 5x5 grid with each square showing a particular dice combination, such as three, four, five of a kind, a straight or full house. On a player's turn they roll five up to a maximum of five times to score a particular combination and they place one of their houses on a matching board space. As soon as you get four houses in a row, you win. However, other players can build on top of your pieces as long as they get the same combination in fewer rolls (a second level building in at most four rolls, a third level in at most three rolls etc.) So players can block others' attempts at four in a row by building on top. The only other way of winning is getting five of a kind on each of the three matching spaces and these are not blocked by someone building on top. This is a fun filler with lots of groans either when someone builds on top of your house or you fail to roll a vital combination. Each of us got fairly close to getting four of a kind before someone snatched the opportunity away but eventually Nicky managed to roll the right combination to give her a second win of the evening.
