With there being eight of us this week, we were on two tables of four and my group started with the new Days of Wonder game, Quadropolis. This is another city planning game where you are trying to build different types of buildings, parks and harbours to maximise your victory points. In the "classic" game, this is done over four rounds and in each round you can place up to four architects around a central board to take buildings and place them in your city. However, you are restricted by the numbers on the architects both in terms of where you can draw from (the number dictates which building you can take from the central board, based on where you place the architect) and where in your city you can place the building (the number dictates the row, column or level - in the case of skyscrapers - that you can use. You may also collect energy or inhabitants with the building tiles and these resources are needed to activate the buildings, otherwise they don't score.

This is quite a thinky game and it gets more so from round to round. Guy and I started by concentrating on skyscrapers while John went for harbours and Steve limped along with public service buildings, as well as missing out on placing his fourth architect in the first round due to being blocked. By the end, John had a very good collection of harbours, as he was pretty much uncontested in picking up those, and some factories placed to work with those harbours. As a result, he took the win although Guy was only one point behind, having two full shops and some well placed parks next his skyscrapers. Good game.
