Our second game of the evening was also new: Karuba is part of Haba Games' new family game line and is designed by Rudiger Dorn. It's a treasure hunting game crossed with Take It Easy. Each player has an empty 6x5 board with four adventurers and four treasures set around the edge. Each player also has an identical set of 36 path tiles to be placed on the board so that they create a network to allow the adventurers to reach the treasure. Each turn, one player draws a tile, calls out its number and everyone then either places that piece on their board or discards and moves one of their adventurers instead. Once all 36 path tiles have been drawn the game ends and players score for the treasure, gold and diamonds they collected.

This is a simple yet engaging race game because players are trying to get their adventurers across the board to the treasure spaces quickly as the first to arrive gets the mst valuable treasure. However, you also want to create an effective network to allow your adventurers to move while also looking to pick up the gold and diamonds. I really enjoyed this and, even though everyone starts with an identical set-up and path tiles are drawn at the same time, people's networks diverge quite quickly. In a close result, Steve turned out to be the most effective Indiana Jones among us, beating John by just one point and me by two.
