We finished off with another old favourite, Fair Means Or Foul (a.k.a. Adel Verpflichtet), which is a terrific scissors-paper-stone type game. I normally get into the psychology quite well but on this occasion, I got it all wrong. The thieves kept plundering my exhibitions and at one stage I was reduced to just 3 cards and unable to put together a valid combination. However, after the first setback, I’d decided to take the losses on the chin and see if I could race out far enough ahead by exhibiting, to make it difficult for the others to catch up.
It nearly worked but not quite. Mark seemed to benefit from a number of uncontested appearances at the Auction House or Stately Home and had a very large collection by the end. Consequently he managed to force his way past me, with Ben also catching up in the final reckoning. Next time, I hope to get the psychology right again.
