Next up was a newish card game by Gunther Burkhardt called "Only the Goats Count". This was a twist on a typical prediction whist game, where you firstly predict a range of goats you think you will collect during the card play, the wider the range you choose - the fewer points you'll earn if you're right. There is also a tactical placement element to this phase as only one or two players get to cover the same numbers. Once the predictions are set, you play through the tricks and mark the goats you win for each trick won. This is equal to the number of goats on the cards plus the value of the lowest card played. This makes for some tense card play as those playing early to the trick can easily get stuffed by later players.

This was a nice whist variant that had a few laughs as people wildly overshot their prediction or managed to just miss out on the last trick played. Not sure there is much skill but it fills the same sort of niche as 6 Nimmt and should be good for a few plays. In our game, Mark K was pretty consistent, scoring every hand but most of them only reaping 2 or 3 points. This allowed Nige to overtake him on the last two hands to grab the win.
